Sadness countered by hi.lar.i.ous.ness

Rest in peace, Mary Travers.  My first thought of Peter, Paul and Mary is always "Puff The Magic Dragon," integral to childhood, but there are so many good ones!  I always found her quite mesmerizing.

Also, Henry Gibson.  I watched Rowan & Martin's Laugh-in as a kid, though SO much of it went right over my head!  That show was integral to cultural awareness and understanding.  I most recently enjoyed Henry Gibson's hilarious portrayal of a judge on "Boston Legal."

Speaking of Laugh-in, I have Goldie Hawn's memoir on my stack o' books — it was recommended by and borrowed from a member of my book club.  I seem to be back in the memoir groove, though I'm currently reading an anthology of Southern women writers called "Down Home" and enjoying it very much.

And Patrick, earlier in the week; now Dirty Dancing in heaven.

* * * * *

This gets funnier every time I watch it.

SNORT!!  Watch it again!  You want to.

  1. Dale and I listened to Puff the Magic Dragon on the work to work this morning and I started bawling. She was a wonderful performer and activist and her voice will be missed.

  2. Thank you for both videos…I put in my Peter Paul and Mary Christmas (I know it’s too early, but that’s all I got) CD in the car (ok – it’s always in the glove compartment) – I love, love, love their harmonies…and I can sing along with them and sound JUST like them (if it’s turned up loud enough!)…and SNORT – too funny for video #2…thanks again…j

  3. I cried when I read about Mary – I’ve seen PPM in concert many times and introduced them to my kids. I was at their reunion concert in Central Park. I love her song “For baby”
