Unraveled Wednesday: Sophie

I’m joining Kat & the Unravelers for Unraveled Wednesday!

KNITTING:

Don’t faint!

  • Ravelry Project Page: I haven’t made one yet
  • Pattern: Sophie Scarf by PetiteKnit
  • Yarn: Ewetopia Pashm, Tapestry colorway
  • Size: Large
  • Needle: US 4
  • Start to Finish: February 6-ish to February 27, 2026

And, as promised, I’ve also resumed kitting on my Farfalle Cardigan… it took me a minute to figure out what my notes, scratches & numbers meant, but I’m back on track (and those notes will be helpful going forward). I’m just about to begin the third repeat on the first sleeve, so it’s slow going but, hey, I’m not in a race with anyone (it’ll be nice to have a finished sleeve though)!

QUILTING:

Oh man…

I had to do some laundry at Ann’s the other day. I took all my quilting stuff so I could lay it out on that large, unobstructed expanse of floor she has over there. On the left, 12 finished quilt blocks, per the pattern. On the right, 13 finished quilt blocks + some ideas for combos for the others I’ll need to make it big… really big! I want it to not only cover my bed, but have a good drop, so I’m probably going to do a double border & I’m considering doubling or even tripling the sashing, too. It’ll take a lot of playing around to figure it out.

But, first, I need to finish all these blocks. I’ve lost count, but these were finished yesterday/last night.

The one on the left is one of my new favorites… which makes up for the one on the right, which is my new least favorite. It’s been suggested that the last favorite block be positioned in the lower left corner — mostly in terms of a wall hanging, I’m guessing — but that would be my side of the bed… so whichever one is in least favor when it comes time to put it all together, it’ll go on the lower right. heh.

I spent some time the other day trimming all of the half square triangle blocks that I made using the cut off parts from previous blocks.

A collection of colorful fabric squares arranged in rows on a cutting mat, accompanied by a pile of fabric scraps and thread remnants.

It was tedious, but very satisfying, and…

A colorful patchwork quilt square featuring various geometric patterns, including polka dots and triangles, in a vibrant mix of fabrics.

…this will likely vie for “favorite” status. I sewed it all together last night, but I’ll need to border it somehow so it’s big enough.

Have I mentioned how much fun I’m having? haha.

  1. Oh man! What a riot/wealth of color. Your quilt squares are magnificent!! Seems like so many are knitting Sophie Scarves, but I have to say they are definitely not for me – way too small. LOL. Your book looks interesting – I’m going to see if my library has it.

  2. Those quilt blocks are OUTSTANDING! The fabrics and colors you have chosen are just incredible. Great Sophie scarf, too.

  3. That Sophie scarf is really gorgeous, and your quilt blocks are simply STUNNING! I think your favorite is also mine, and I love your placement idea for your least favorite. That needs to go on Rusty’s side!

  4. Okay. Like I seriously just GUFFAWED out loud at Bonny’s comment. Rusty’s side. Of course. 😉 LOVE the squares. It is so JOY filled and wonderful and just plain fun. Another absolutely epic project. And, my goodness. Isn’t that Sophie Scarf just the best little hanging-around project ever? I’m still binge-ing them over here . . . and may never stop. And YAY for stateside daughters. XO

  5. The best news is at the end of the post. I’m so happy for you that your daughter will be home visiting soon. Wow. What a quilt you are making. It is wild and gorgeous. I’ve enjoyed knitting the larger Sophie Shawl which is really a big scarf. The shape that gradually increases to a center point and then decreases is fun to knit. There is something psychological about beginning decreases.

  6. These colors are so cheering! The quilt is going to be spectacular — and I’m so glad you’re committed to making it big. I hope by now Maddie has made it to your home!

  7. These blocks are indeed outstanding!! And I might have even choked a bit on my coffee reading Bonny’s ideas of least favored block placement! Hahaha! I might be the odd one out, but I love your dark and light log cabin! (and I bet it will be THE thing in the quilt wherever it lands!) Hurrah for stateside daughters! Have a fabulous time! XO
