Nightmares From Down Under

Nightmare-1

Nightmare-2

Poor kid!

Hi! I'm Vicki. I began blogging at knitorious in 2004! I knit, sew, dye, garden, and cook. I'm a daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, and grandmother!

What a time to be in Nashville. ❤️🎸🎶❤️ Hm. What’s missing?? 🤣 Starting to cut up the remainder for some flying geese. Yes! I’m back to the quilt!! I’m at my sister’s doing laundry after the departure of guests who were here for the amazing week-long, loud, flashy, sparkly & amazing PGI @pyrotechnicsguildinternational convention 🎆🎇, and working on my MDK @mymoderndailyknitting Summer Camp Project Bag. They left some cerveza in the fridge with my name on it… literally 🍻, so I am indulging! I have some other amazing fabrics to add to this bag, along with some different colors of thread. (Need to continue the archaeological dig in The Little Working Museum.)🪡 It’s a fun project, mashing up a few of my favorite things… and will be a pretty great/useful bag when finished! 32 & still working scraps… some of the balls are getting really small though. It’s been a fun exercise. I have plenty of non-scrap Felted Tweed, so no worries. When I get to 36, I’ll need to find a new photo spot! I had a really fun day with the girls today! We started at Heritage Hill @heritagehillgb for Textile Arts Day, and stopped in every single building! I can’t remember the last time I visited… decades, for sure. LOVE that they did some weaving (and they loved it, too) plus we talked with some spinners & embroiderers, chose fabric squares for quilt blocks, visited the blacksmith shop, and had some dress-up opportunities. (I’m getting Anne With an E vibes from Ginny.) Then we went to the Bergstrom Mahler @bmmglass Glass Fest, which was relocated from Neenah to Appleton because of the tornado (still cleaning up), and that was pretty cool! We oohed & aahed a lot, they each chose beads for a necklace, and we made pinwheels in the craft area. In between, we had lunch, visited a thrift store, and stopped at the cookie shop. LOTS of steps today! Had my cane in case I needed it… came close while climbing back up the “hill” at the aptly named Heritage Hill. Took my longest walk yet! A couple thousand steps around the Butterfly Pond on a spectacular day! Had my folding cane in case I needed it, but did not deploy. Nap on the horizon. 😂 All of the borrowed medical equipment has been returned! A walker & cane from my coworker, Jay, and a bunch of stuff from the Fox Valley Lions MJ Tassoul Loan Locker. What an amazing resource. Some of it I used every day for a while, some of it once, and one thing (toilet seat riser) not at all! Yay! Almost four weeks & starting to feel a little more normal. And then there were 12! Turns out, I’m not doing double crochets, as I thought, and they’re not half double crochets, either — something in between, and that’s how it’s gonna be! I love them, whatever they are. Hooking is not second nature to me & next time I won’t rely on memory! In other news, I haven’t used a cane in a couple of days, I’ve started driving, PT is down to two days/week instead of three, the hip feels great, incision is finally starting to feel better, and I’m sleeping better (still mostly on the couch), though still napping most days (healing is tiring!). Granny-ing along. Only one glaring error that could not be overlooked to rip & re-do, but otherwise going okay. I had a bunch of short lengths that were perfectly sized for the start of some squares, so made those all up, and I’m nearly through one random pass through the leftovers… then another go! In other news, I’m getting around without a cane, for the most part, and not needing to ice as much; doing the at-home exercises (even when I don’t want to); easing back in at work already (1.5 days last week, 2.5 this week, then likely back to my 3-/4-day weeks), and can start driving again on Tuesday (that will be weird). It’s only 3 weeks on Tuesday since surgery! Feeling pretty good. 👍 😊
