Nightmares From Down Under

Nightmare-1

Nightmare-2

Poor kid!

Hi! I'm Vicki. I began blogging at knitorious in 2004! I knit, sew, dye, garden, and cook. I'm a daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, and grandmother!

Just dropped off my quilt top at Fox Cities Quilt Co to be long-armed! Chose the thread, stitch design, backing & batting. This is the first bed-sized quilt I’ve made by/for myself. It’s not going to win any prizes for neatness or accuracy or mind-blowing design, but it’s already doing its job: making me happy!! And it will certainly brighten up the bedroom this winter. (We’re getting our first significant snowfall today.) Made from @kaffefassettstudio & @brandonmably fat quarters, many of which were purchased at @modern.daily.knitting when I was in Nashville in October for the Fassett/Mably event there, and others collected here & there (because I cannot resist!!). ❤️🧵 Doing laundry, watching football (💚💛🏈🏆), knitting, and doing some cleaning out & organizing on this thanksgiving. Ran across a couple of random old clip-on phone cam lenses, including this fish-eye & the macro that I took it with. 📸 They work better than I remember! Do they stay or do they go now?? 😂 Repost from @january_one ... 🚨🚨UPDATE 🚨🚨 Breakfast reading. 🥣📖❤️ On Wednesday we drove west to Omaha and on Sunday we drove back east to home. In between? A stop at The Dickeyville Grotto (WI) for the first time ever & a drive across all of Iowa. We went over to Lincoln on Friday to visit The International Quilt Museum. “The Space Between” by Rachel Hayes was a fun surprise, and I was excited to see “Cotton Sophisticate” by Chawne Kimber (so awesome). We stopped at the Capitol building (amazing). And we also visited The Museum of American Speed, which blew us away with all the incredible collections & the beautiful design—even the stairwells were put to excellent use. Notably, I had my first RUNZA (did I like it? 😂 Maybe??). The Holy Family Shrine, gorgeous when spotted from I-80 & also up close. We caught a blurb on the news about the new Omaha Public Library & then happened to drive by. It’s beautiful! Then on Saturday, the main event/impetus for the trip—the opening of Dripping Earth: Cannupa Hanska Luger & lecture, all of which was so captivating! We were a little “museum’d-out” after Lincoln, but still managed to spend five hours at The Joslyn on Saturday (kicked out @ closing time!). There was much, much more, of course, but these are the CliffsNotes for another #whirlwindarttripwithkate 🎨❤️🚗 @internationalquiltmuseum @rachelbhayes @cauchycomplete @nebraskastatecapitol @museumofamericanspeed @runzarestaurants @omahalibrary @cannupahanska @joslynartmuseum @visitomaha @lincolnnebraskausa It’s taken a couple of weeks for my brain to kick in with this project, but I think I’ve finally caught on. Now let’s hope that this sleeve/swatch is at the proper gauge! This is Amy Christoffers‘ FARFALLE CARDIGAN. I’m using vintage Rowan Magpie for the main color — most inherited from my sister Sharon — but she didn’t have enough, so I found three more hanks on eBay & am using those for the deep ribbing at the bottom, neckline & cuffs. Hopefully these two lots are close enough in color & there’s enough going on with pattern & texture in the body of the sweater that it won’t be (too) noticeable. I’ve been searching for a project for this yarn for about 15 years! The contrast yarn is Noro Ito, and it’s been ages since I’ve experienced the magic that is knitting with Noro. I saw that big ball of Ito referred to as an egg… so that’s what it is. 🧶🥚 @savoryknitting #farfallecardigan @rowanyarns @noroyarns Peace. ☮️ And 67! They were the most common themes on the kids’ shirts — at least the painted ones. (I told them that words & numbers would not be legible with the alcohol technique.) Ginny started right in with a big green flower, and Davy was groovin’ with the metallics from the get-go… and was the first to ask for a paintbrush 🖌️. Malina & Junah weren’t quite sure where to start, and one of my suggestions was a peace sign… and I absolutely LOVE that, without hesitation, Malina started painting a sign with the word PEACE! ✌️ And then the juices began to flow… smiles, hearts, explorations of color. The alcohol method can be a little tricky… don’t get it too saturated too quickly, keep some space between the project & the base, but they turned out great, and the girls love that a little soaked through to the back. It just so happens that I created a “1967” playlist on @spotify a few years ago, because I was 8-going-on-9 that year & really started tuning in & listening to the radio. GROOVIN’ by The Young Rascals is one of those songs… the songs that helped to shape me (for better or worse). I’ll share the playlist in my stories. Anyway, it’s a good day for a pick-me-up… enjoy my grandkids’ creations & some music (& my mug… I kept turning the 📷 around when I was taking photos… took it as a selfie sign.) A little afternoon Nona Camp today! We painted shirts — someone (Davy, I think) asked for a paintbrush. 🖌️ I don’t remember using brushes with puffy paint before, but why not? We did that out in the driveway because what a GORGEOUS day! Then we moved inside and on to Sharpies with rubbing alcohol. Super fun. 🌈 I went to a pretty crazy estate sale today… mostly little stuff, collections galore. I came away with a little bit of ephemera for the art projects in my head (that will hopefully come out someday), and some pretty great switch plates! These two are for my deco daughter… actually, Deco… capital D.
