Unraveled Wednesday: Ironworks

Joining Kat & the Unravelers with an update!

KNITTING:

I've been working on the first of two belated Christmas presents, Kate's Ironworks Beret, which I began on New Year's Day.

The pattern is in MDK Field Guide No. 9: Revolution, or, as I like to call it, the Norah Gaughan issue.

I have a ways to go, but I imagine the decreases will be starting pretty soon. I haven't knit cables in a while, and these are especially fun.

I'm using the specified yarn, Jill Draper's Windham, which I ordered from Ann & Kay at MDK, in the color Graphite… and it's GORGEOUS!! It's lovely to work with, too.

My cute project bag is made by Madder Root, and was a Rhinebeck purchase. That particular bag is sold out at the moment, but there are so many other great designs!

READING:

The reading is the same, same, (almost the) same!

However slowly, I am making progress on all fronts. But now that the holiday ruckus is behind us and people are all either home or well on their way, I am mainly concentrating on staving off a cold! I'm looking forward to a Friday-off workweek this week, which means a long weekend and hopefully lots of rest… though possibly with a side of taking down the tree and definitely celebrating a 5-year-old's birthday (without spreading too many germs)!!

  1. That yarn is beautiful, reminiscent of ironwork, and just perfect for Kate’s beret! Good luck with not spreading germs with five-year-olds, but really, how can Junah be approaching five?!

  2. That yarn is gorgeous! I can’t wait to see how the hat turns out. I’ve not tried cables yet. I find them very intimidating. I hope you are feeling better soon. Happy birthday to your sweet grandson!

  3. Oh, Vicki. That YARN! It is just beautiful. I’m not a huge fan of cable-knitting (the doing it just seems so . . . slow), but that hat is just gorgeous! Enjoy!

  4. That’s a great looking hat, I love the yarn! I have a $50 MDK gift certificate for winning one of the December contests and that is very tempting.

  5. The yarn is lovely and I’d like to knit that hat, too. I love cables, but rarely see patterns I love. Hope you are in the pink quickly and can attend the b-day celebrations in good health! Like Bonny said, HOW can Jun be 5!!

  6. Oh man that hat is going to be gorgeous! I love cables and hope to experiment with designing a couple of things this year (I just need MORE time). Love the color and everything in the Norah Gaughan issue is beautiful, isn’t it? I’m so drawn to the capelet…but don’t think I would wear it. Hoping you are feeling much better – enjoy tomorrow off and Happy Birthday to Junah!!

  7. Happiest of happy birthday wishes for Junah! (and all the stay-well wishes for you!) That beret is coming along beautifully – LOVE the tonal variation and those cables – wow, they POP!

  8. The yarn and pattern are gorgeous! Norah G. lives somewhat near. I saw her in a restaurant once years ago and was star struck! And she was knitting! 🙂
