KNITTING:
I finished the latest Imagined Landscapes MKAL just under the wire to make it my last FO(s) of 2023!
It was a two-fer! Aren’t they adorable? The snowman was knit first and I’m sure many participants were scratching their heads when they knit that carrot nose (I rarely follow along in chats, so I’m only guessing).
He’s a very gnome-ish snowman.

- Start to Finish: December 2 to December 30, 2023
The pattern called for US 1 and 1.5 needles but I couldn’t find any 1.5s… so it was 1s all the way! This knit-along is always a lot of fun, and very do-able as the project is small. I wasn’t able to keep up this year, and that turned out OK as I was able to knit some of the clues out of order — sometimes all I had time/mental capacity for was knitting a “little bit.”
Sarah sends a little something everyday during the KAL but it’s not always a knitting clue…
…sometimes it’s a coloring page! Obviously, I’d finished the snowman portion of the program by this point (the Christmas weekend sleepover) and I love that Malina has him sitting there with the MKAL gnome project from 2021. There are a few shared recipes during the month, and a story thread that goes along with the KAL, too, though I barely read a word of that.
KNITTING 2023:
Since that was the last FO of the year, it seems like a good time to take a look at what else I finished in 2023.
Doesn’t look like much, does it? Just like last year, there was a whole lot of knitting but it didn’t add up to a lot of finishes: one sweater, one hat, one blanket, one Christmas stocking, and two “gnomes”! Details of all on Ravelry; I am knitorious.
I knit a fair bit on the Family Temperature Blanket last year and, as mentioned yesterday, it’s back in rotation! It would be pretty great to see that project on my list of 2024 FOs. I also have another Musselburgh underway for portable knitting.
READING:
Goodreads tells me that I read FOUR books last year. I’m pulling myself out of the slump, and resumed listening to Meryl Streep read Tom Lake on the way to work this week (sped up a little bit). I received Wellness in the Jólabókaflóð exchange this year and I’ve noticed it at the top of a number of “best of” lists recently, so that might be next.

I like your gnome and snow-gnome along with that coloring page with gnomes keeping Malina company! There was plenty of knitting even if you don’t have many FOs. The Musselburgh is actually two hats and Mack’s blanket had loads of knitting. And then there’s the epic temperature blanket! I hope to see more of it as it progresses.
I need to print out the coloring pages for Jackie, thanks for that reminder! And I love your sgnome-man and gnome, too! I have only finished the sgnome-man so far but I’m hoping to finish the gnome this weekend.
Your gnome and snowy friend are adorable! I bought the pattern but decided not to make it just yet; I was intending to make a Chanukah gnome for my brother, and I don’t think this guy is gnome-y enough for him, so I may go with an older pattern.
I think you’ll really like Wellness! It’s a long book, but it moves fast.
Your gnomes are simply adorable. And, I feel like you got a lot of knitting done this past year. The bomber jacket was the bomb! And Mack’s blanket. And the temperature panels. all o those add up to a ton of knitting. And it’s not like you are sitting idle – you ALWAYS seem to be on the go. Anyway, it’s not a race. I enjoy looking back at what I made, but I don’t have goals or anything (why would I do that to myself?? LOL). I’m #5 in the queue at my Library for Wellness, so that should be a read for me soon. I hope we both enjoy it!
Any finish is a good finish and it counts. I knit a lot last year. I did not finish a lot. Seriously . . . NOTHING seemed to make it to the end. One pair of socks got finished.
Hoping for a more productive year this year.
Your gnomes are too, TOO cute!
I was not so enamored with my “limp” armed snowman, so I got some 18 gauge floral wire and gave those sticks some life! I liked him much better that way. Also… I did not get the “two snowballs” thing on Mr. Gnightly… so I did just one snowball! (my favorite gnomes of December were the Gnome Ornaments I sent off to my grands!)
I agree with Dee, anything finished is a good finish. I absolutely love your Gnomes and now I want to make them!
Gnomes are too fiddly for me, but I enjoy seeing yours and Kat’s! Meryl Streep reading Tom Lake was a highlight of 2023 for me.
It seems I knit-a-lot-with-little-to-show-for-it, too. But . . . I don’t have adorble gnomes and sgnome-men to make up for it! Love Malina’s coloring page!!! XO
