It took 65.5 years but I finally did it…

…I started the charcoal (we use a chimney similar to this) and grilled some burgers & brats!

I parboiled the brats to be extra-sure they’d be cooked through, and I might have taken the burgers off a minute or two sooner, but overall SUCCESS!!
Rusty’s the usual grill master around here, but he & Kate are still out west — making their way back (currently in northern Montana) — and a cookout was what everyone was in the mood for. What’s a girl gonna do?
Speaking of Rusty & Kate…

Malina can’t wait for them to get back! I love how she wrote RUSTY instead of Grandpa!
From the never-before file, I spotted a baby snapping turtle in the street right out front of the garage on Saturday afternoon.

Ginny’s foot for scale.

There’s a river & a creek not too far away — Maddy said that she used to see mama snappers laying eggs on the banks of the creek — but however that little guy got out in front of our house, he climbed uphill! I never even knew we had snapping turtles around here, have never seen any kind of turtle, really, but I’ve seen a few other posts from locals about them this year.

Several new-to-you-things, but brats and burgers look like they might taste better!
Oh, those burgers and brats look divine, Vicki! Tom is the Grillmaster around here, also. I don’t think I’ve ever actually cooked on a grill. . . Probably should unlock that achievement for myself . . . We have snapping turtles in the ponds nearby — and up north at the lake, too. I’ve never found one in our yard/driveway, though (although we do often get box turtles in the yard). What a cool thing to find with the kids! XO
Your cookout food does look divine! I used to be the “head grillmaster” and maybe I need to reclaim that job from Steve! Ha! That snapper… he might look small, but their bite is quite powerful! Be careful!
I’m the griller around here as I’m married to one of the only Men in America who is not a griller. But I don’t use charcoal so my hat is off to you for your accomplishment! Snappers are cute when they are little like that but watch out when they get bigger!
