We’re experiencing epic rainfall here in NE Wisconsin. We have a little water in our basement for the first time in my memory (which, arguably, tends to be selective, especially regarding unpleasant stuff). There are SO MANY people with water in their basements… so much water! The entire Village of Shiocton, 20 miles NW of us, has been ordered to evacuate today, with no determined return date, as have portions of other cities & towns near us. There’s a small creek that flows a little ways from our house & the sound of rushing water woke up Rusty early yesterday morning — he was compelled to get dressed & go down to check it out! We’ve seen record rainfall for April — and we’re only half-way. Crazy spring!
I’m joining Kat & the Unravelers for Unraveled Wednesday!
KNITTING:
I finished the second Farfalle sleeve last night.

Then I cast on & got started on the ribbing for the back. 1×1 Ribbing is a slog.
I’ve been otherwise occupied this week with the upstairs bathroom. Rusty finished the surround — a few little things to do yet, such as installing grab bars & a new shower curtain rod. Now my part has begun…

I’ve started stripping the wallpaper. The first (plastic-y) layer has been peeled off, and now I’ll go at it with a steamer to scrape off the paper/glue. It’s been ages since I’ve done this, but every single room in our house had ONE WALLPAPERED WALL when we moved in… all of it different — this bathroom had flocked foil wallpaper. Anyway, no more wallpaper. With assistance, everything in this room will be repainted except for the floor (I hope). I’m waiting to hear from the tub refinisher about scheduling, but have to get everything in the tub area finished before he arrives (no stools or ladders will be allowed IN the shower after refinishing).
READING:
It’s a short book, but y’know… I’ve been busy! I’m still reading The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating by Elisabeth Tova Bailey and still enjoying it.

I have the Snail book on my nightstand and am looking forward to getting into it. But first, “Good People.” Beautiful knitting and you will have one gorgeous bathroom soon!
I hope you all dry out soon! We got a major downpour the other day and I was glad for the sump pump we installed in our basement when I saw all the storm drains backing up.
I’m glad you are not underwater and evacuated; how would you strip wallpaper?! I am laughing at flocked foil wallpaper. I hope things dry out and you can find a little time to knit. Farfalle sleeves are looking good!
I am really so so glad you are not underwater, so many are! My daughter is currently okay where she is in Maple City but Traverse City is a disaster!! Your knitting is always so inspiring! Huzzah for when that bathroom gets finished but sigh… wallpaper stripping is the worst!
Oh man, I hear you on the wallpaper. I grew up with it in every room and we had it in our house, too, but finally don’t have ANY AT ALL and that makes me so happy. I’m glad your water situation is in check and hope it stays that way.
This project is a very beautiful sweater. We wallpapered back in the day and then learned how to scrape it off. Ugh. Now there is none. I don’t believe we ever put up flocked wallpaper though. I’m glad you haven’t been under water. I just read an interesting article about combining green/blue strategies (environmental sponges like parks, water collection areas etc.) with gray strategies (drains, pipes, concrete) to mitigate flooding from the increased intense rainfall. It would be nice to have an administration committed to such things in this country. Stay safe and dry.
Ohmygod . . . the rain. It has been EPIC. I wondered if you were getting it over there, too. (Now I know.) Although it’s stopped raining here (finally), it is brutally cold. But sunny! So there is that. I hope your basement has dried out. Your bathroom is going to be just wonderful! And the sleeve looks FAB. XO
