Weekending On Ice

As part of the kids’ Christmas present last year, I gave them some shirts & dye & a promise for a future ice-dyeing date. Well, I decided that it had to happen now!

The kids each brought at least one other item to dye. The items all had a good soak in soda ash fixer while Junah & I ran for ice.

I already had a few sifting/sprinkling devices — everyone’s favorite were some swivel spoons meant for powdered sugar, I think — and found a few more while out thrifting. Turns out, I had WAY more fiber reactive dyes than I realized… which all added up to lots of colorful fun!

Rusty, Kate & I each dyed an item, too.

Now we wait…

This was late yesterday after much of the ice had melted. Tonight I’ll rinse & wash & fix the color (hopefully).

I report for surgery at 5:30 am tomorrow, so I’ll post t-shirt results when I can!! Send your best juju for everything!!

  1. Thanks for a quick look into ice dyeing! I was curious after your ig post. I’ll wait patiently to see the results. I will be sending all my best thoughts, hopes, and juju your way for a smooth surgery and an easy and pain-free recovery, along with calm and courage for your weeks ahead.

  2. Thinking of you and wishing you the very best! I know you’ll be on your feet in no time. (Just about literally—sheesh, they get you on ‘em in a flash, it seems.) Love that you made this project happen on the eve of surgery, and I can’t wait to see the results—of both!
