I’m joining Kat & the Unravelers for Unraveled Wednesday!
KNITTING
I might have had a finished gnome to show today, but I didn’t like how his nose turned out last night & was too distracted (in such a very good mid-term blue wave way) to make another one.

Not only will he have a schnoz, he’ll also be mustachioed! The nose/mustache combo will push up the brim of his bowler-ish hat a bit and I think it’ll be really cute, even if not quite traditional. The yarn is all grabbed from stash, and that maroon yarn was a PITA on small needles — very splitty & not very well behaved overall, but it’s also good at hiding the multitude of mistakes that I most surely made.

The hand was different than any I’ve done, and very simple, but I still love the magic of the mittened hand of All Work, Gnome Play
from 2021 (one of my favorite gnomes). Maybe an FO post next week!
I’ve already signed up for Wee Three Gnomes, Sarah’s December MKAL. They’ll be small, ornaments if desired, along the lines of the little guy in Leave Gnome Stone Unturned (another favorite).
READING
Same as it was & will likely be for a while. Pages: Wellness by Nathan Hill. Audio: Barbara Kingsolver’s Partita.
Tomorrow I’m heading down to Madison right after work. Annie & I catch an early morning flight to Newark on Friday! Our hotel is at Times Square, so we’re in the thick of it, and have a little something planned every day — museums, restaurants, a food tour, even a Packers bar — but you may recall that the main attraction is Lincoln In The Bardo at the Metropolitan Opera House. I’m so excited. It opened a few weeks ago, and George Saunders has attended at least twice. In one of his Substacks, he shared a documentary about the making of the opera.
I’ve seen a few other videos from the opera & read some reviews, as well, but it’ll be amazing to see it all! I haven’t attended an opera since I was in high school — the only other opera that I’ve ever attended — and I don’t remember which one, but I do remember enjoying it!

That gnome is wearing a lovely cabled sweater! Someday I’ll knit a gnome, so I think I’ll take a look at Wee Three Gnomes. I loved Wellness and I hope you’re enjoying Partita, but most of all, enjoy Lincoln in the Bardo!
Gosh you are a busy soul! Sometimes reading your posts with all the grandkids activity and your travels, and meeting up with Kate for walks and camping and Rusty’s new space I get exhausted just sitting and reading! LOL. I’m old. Hahaha. Anyway – have a fab time in NYC – I’ll look forward to hearing all about it. Safe travels.
I think this latest mystery gnome is so cute, though he’s not very gnome-y (I think it’s the hat). I’m going to be knitting a gnome soon — the one with the bear hoodie — for my nephew for a holiday gift, and your previous ones are always a good source of inspiration to me. Have a fabulous time in NYC! Can’t wait to hear about the opera.
Have a fantastic time in NYC! I have saved the video to watch a bit later today! (thank you!) I am in with you for the December Gnomes… it is my favorite KAL of the year because of the story! XO
The New York trip sounds amazing! Can’t wait to hear about it!
