Unraveled Wednesday: 12 Weeks

I’m joining Kat & the Unravelers for Unraveled Wednesday! Just a quick update today… hopefully I’ll have a bit more to share (with better photos) next week.

KNITTING

I’m currently knitting the weather for 12th week of Madeleine’s life.

We turned on SHOGUN just as I was about to do the “daytime” section of this day/row of July 1991 — it was 90F — and y’know I can’t knit and watch that at the same time!

READING

I’m still working on The Devil’s Cloth: A History of Stripes, but have downloaded the audio for the next Read With Us book, How To Say Babylon. I love a good memoir.

IN OTHER NEWS

I had a snow day today. It probably wasn’t really necessary, as we didn’t get anywhere near the amount predicted, but it was the wettest, heaviest snow I’ve seen in a long time. Brutal. And it was also very windy overnight & this morning. Luckily, we haven’t even had a blip in our power but there are others in the area who have been without power since early this morning.

I woke up very early this morning, with nagging thoughts about the weather, road conditions & work, and had a hard time getting back to sleep… until I knew for sure that I wasn’t going in, and then I slept for another couple of much-needed hours.

And I’ve mostly been putzing. It seemed like a great day for a roast, so I just got that in the oven. It’s the first time that I’ve actually used my new range, other than just testing buttons, dials, and functions — like knocking on the oven door to turn on the light (still tickled by that one and do it every once in a while just because I can).

  1. An April snow day might be the best boon of an April snow! (Aside from the other boon in that it won’t last long!) You are flying on Maddy’s column!

  2. Your last segment of the grand temperature project seems to be going quickly! Ugh to April snow…though Fletch just told me we could see some this weekend where we are headed with the kids. At least our rains have stopped for now. I’m almost done “How to Say Babylon” (about 50 pages left). Quite a story!!

  3. I’m excited to see Maddie’s panel progressing and hearing about your fancy new range in action! (I’d probably knock on the door every time I passed.)

  4. We’re too far south to be getting in on the April snow (fine by me!) . . . but we’ve had a lot of rain. And it’s chilly. Spring snows are so dang heavy and wet (not to mention unwelcome . . . ). So glad you had the day off to putz and knit and play with your new oven!

  5. We have snow to the north of us today and I’m very glad it’s not where we are! I didn’t know ovens did fancy things like that but I’d get a kick out of it, too. Love your blanket progress!
