Kate & I met up with Addie to deliver the blanket & take him out for breakfast on Sunday morning before heading home.
I didn’t start this blanket in 2021 with Addison’s high school graduation in mind — I didn’t even have his older brother’s graduation blanket in mind at that point — but obviously it’s taken a few years of on/off work to make. He’d visit at least twice a year and I’d be working on the blanket, or he’d ask about it, always commenting on how cool it was… so eventually I decided it would be his! (Flattery will get you everywhere! haha)
It all started with the purchase of a Unicorn Tails Prism Pack during the pandemic, and figuring out what to do with them — along with Unicorn Tail remnants from other projects (mostly gnomes). I’ve posted quite a bit about the project in the Crochet category (along with some of my favorite photos, tho some are not showing & I haven’t been able to fix them yet), if you care to scroll. It was for this project that I first used the Granny Squares Color Pattern Generator.
READING:
I finished Kaffe Fassett: Dreaming In Color: An Autobiography last night. I’d started Kaffe Fassett in the Studio in Minneapolis, so am continuing with that. It’s even more of a “coffee table book” than Dreaming In Color — lots of big pictures & spreads — so I’ll finish it before too long. It’s a visual bonanza.

In other news, Davy jumped off the bleachers at lunchtime the other day…
…from a substantial height! Turns out, he broke the first metatarsal in his foot. He has a visit with ortho tomorrow and may end up with a real cast. Stay tuned.

I’m glad to see another Epic Blanket from you, completed and fulfilling its destiny. Poor Davey! It’s nice to see his smile isn’t broken and I hope he heals quickly.
Oh dear! Poor Davy, though doesn’t look unhappy at all! I hope he heals well and quickly. Love Addie’s blanket (and his smile while holding it). What a wonderful gift (the blanket AND his smile).
What a great gift for your grandson! It’s so much fun when they are happy to receive what we make. And that Davy. He is the cutest guy. I hope he heals quickly. I can’t imagine a cast will slow him down too much.
first – yikes, poor Davey – not that he looks all that bothered?! and then WOW Vicki – I somehow missed that you were even working on an EPIC hexie project and it’s just so cool that you finished it for Addie. (also very cool that you found such a great way to use that pandemic purchase!)
The blanket is fabulous! I have a feeling it’s going to get a lot of use in the next several years and you might even be called in for a repair. And poor Davey! I know exactly how he feels, though I expect being an active little boy, he’s probably even more frustrated by being in a boot. I hope the orthopedist gives a good prognosis.
I love the blanket with its recipient smiling so brightly! What an epic gift, Vicki! And speaking of epic… well done young Davey! As the orthopedist did when my kids were little… he welcomed them warmly to the Broken Bones Club! (he even had a pin for them before pins were all the rage!) So welcome, welcome dear Davey! The boon of broken bones in children is that they heal so quickly! May Davey’s healing be just as fast!
Oh, Davy! That tiny boot . . . He’s an Extra-Action Kid, for sure. (The good thing is that kids’ bones heal quickly.) (Ask me how I know . . . ) And your hexie blanket is FABulous! (And that Addie is one handsome young man.) XO
