12.26: Year In Review

Here we go again Year In Review!

I do it in words (the first sentence of the first post of each month) and in pictures (a favorite posted photo from each month) — the two are not necessarily related.

January 2024:

For the past few years I’ve been more intentional about beginning [the new year] as I mean to go on, so with that in mind, I slept in yesterday, went for a walk, had a leftover lobster tail for lunch, cleaned out the fridge, started a new donation bag, cleaned up my knitting area a bit, and worked on my Temperature Blanket!

February 2024:

And TGIF! I’m looking forward to a no-pressure, no-plans weekend at home.

March 2024:

I tagged along on a #whirlwindarttripwithkate to Minnesota last weekend.

April 2024:

My Friday plans with Malina were thwarted & I need to reschedule — dates with both her & Ginny.

May 2024:

It’s hard to believe that Ginny is eight years old today!

June 2024:

OK. Who knew that making beaded bracelets was so fun?

July 2024:

It took 65.5 years but I finally did it… started the charcoal (we use a chimney similar to this) and grilled some burgers & brats!

August 2024:

It was a busy weekend with everyone here — in & out — from Friday night until this morning!

September 2024:

I have an FO!!

October 2024:

“I’m going to draw Nona.”

November 2024:

I woke up a week ago today — my 66th birthday — and one of the first things I saw (on social media) was that one of my friends had turned her profile picture black.

December 2024:

I didn’t realize it was NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month) until we were a few days into November.

Other than the disaster that occurred on November 5th, it was a pretty good year.

2025 is around the corner, ready or not, and there are some things to look forward to! Rusty & I will celebrate our 40th anniversary next month, there will be some traveling, there will be a building/remodeling project or two, Ann will be moving back to the US, Maddy will be visiting again this summer, and both she & Viv will likely be coming for Christmas!

I’ll be over here reading & munching…

Full disclosure, I opened one of my many lovely Jólabókaflód gifts several days ago when I was in need of something sweet… I did the shake test and, BINGO, scored a box of Italian dark chocolate truffles. A few days later, I (finally) finished a book, and though I could have chosen from one of my many stacks of emotional support books, I chose to open a NEW/SURPRISE book — This Long Thread. Then, again, I went looking for something sweet, and unwrapped a container of chocolate-covered cookies. Alas, the rest I left for yesterday, the traditional day for the “book flood” (with chocolate). I opened more cookies, an amazing chocolate bar, some dulce de leche, and What I Ate In One Year by Stanley Tucci. I am utterly spoiled, and very happy!! Merry Christmas, everyone!

Happy Holidays!

We had a wonderful evening with some delightful kids. Kate helped me cook dinner. Ali brought us a quiche for tomorrow morning’s breakfast. We all gave a shout out to Maddy & Viv — it’s Christmas Day in Australia, and it’s 95F!!

12.23: Go Pack Go!

On this Eve of Christmas Eve, I’ll be heading to Lambeau Field for Monday Night Football! It’s been ages since I’ve gone to a regular season game, and even longer since I went to a cold-weather game. It’s been lightly snowing all day, but thankfully it isn’t too cold (relatively speaking), and the snow should be letting up at just about the time we depart. I’m going with Ann, Brian & Addie (they needed a driver! Lucky me!!).

I finished my Scoreboard cowl and cleaned up & mended a hat that I found in the closet. I dyed the yarn that I used for the cowl and I’m pretty pleased with how well it matches!

12.22

I strategized my last holiday prep runs to Target & the grocery store, and went this morning. Sunday morning has always proved a good plan on any given weekend, and it worked well this weekend, too.

I got home & unpacked everything, then straightened up my workroom a bit, since that’s where I plan to do most of my gift wrapping. There’s not much of that, but I need space!

I’ve been trying for a week or so to locate a couple of gifts that I bought/ordered early and “put someplace safe,” and finally found those. And I pulled some supplies together for gifts that are more like “Let’s Make Something.” I’m feeling good!

Ann, Brian & Addie arrived in Madison yesterday, and they’ll be up here tomorrow for a VERY quick overnight visit. They’ll head back to Madison for Christmas, then return here next weekend. Airbnb guests departed around noon today, so I went over there this afternoon to strip beds, start laundry & the dishwasher, clean the bathrooms, and take out the trash. They’ll just need to make their beds!

Time at Ann’s is supposed to be time for seaming the temperature blanket, but this morning I pulled a 9-year-old WIP from the pile and did a little surgery while I waited for laundry. I had extra time, thanks to that interminable MINUTE (that takes SO MANY MORE MINUTES) while the washer tries to balance the load for the final spin, so picked up all the stitches, too, and now I need to graft this “incomplete” Scoreboard scarf into an infinity scarf.

More on that later…

Hope things are going well for you!!
