Eye Candy Friday

A close-up of a blooming orchid flower with reddish-brown petals and a light purple center, alongside unopened buds, set against a soft background.

We have a re-bloom on this little orchid. There are plenty more flowers to come, as you can see!

I stopped at my first rummage sale of the year yesterday. I love the ones that start with Thursday evening hours! I found a couple of 100-pc Ravensburger puzzles for the kids, which is perfect since I’ll be seeing them later today for an overnight.

I also went to my first-ever quilting guild meeting last night — my first-ever guild meeting of any kind! I was never involved in any knitting/fiber guild, though some of my friends were, and I don’t think there is an active group around here anymore. (I seem to recall some dust-ups & personality/leadership/vision clashes in my periphery.) Anyway, I just happened to Google it yesterday & there was a quilt guild meeting that very evening with a presentation on “scraps” given by guests from a shop in Fond du Lac. Since I have a growing collection of scraps (really can’t seem to throw out any but threads), it seemed a no-brainer to get some tips on managing, classifying, sorting, and using them. They had so many scrappy quilts & projects to show… very inspiring — as was the regular show & tell that closes every meeting. I didn’t actually join, but it’s likely that I will; the investment isn’t that much & there are some pretty good benefits. I saw a couple of familiar faces from other areas of my life, and met some new people; everyone was very friendly. I’m looking forward to their quilt show coming up in October!

  1. I love your orchid rebloom! I’ve got one also (my first ever) and the buds are starting to open after several months. It’s exciting!

  2. What a beautiful orchid. I’m always tempted when I see them in the floral sections of the grocery stores. I hope you enjoy the quilt guild. If they can steer clear of personality dramas, they can be great fun.

  3. A beautiful orchid and congrats on getting it to rebloom! Joining that quilt guild sounds like just the thing to keep you inspired and learning. Go for it! We have a quilt group that meets at my library every week and sometimes those personalities clash and . . . oh boy. I’m glad I’m on the sidelines for it and not part of it.

  4. What a pretty orchid! I’ve got a bunch that have grown new leaves and roots but no new flowers yet. I’m glad the guild meeting was good and hope it’s a good experience going forward!

  5. First, I gotta say . . . I’ve lived in two towns with Knitting Guilds, and although I have no idea of the current status of either one at this point in time, I can say that . . . back in the day, there were plenty of “dust-ups & personality/leadership/vision clashes” at BOTH of them to keep me far, far away. What IS it with strong-minded fiber women???? ;-P

Love your re-bloom! Love your quilting guild adventure. What fun!
